Feb 10th: preparing yourself for Easter…

Hey sheep and fishermen!!

…a priest dips his right thumb in the ashes and, making the sign of the Cross on each person’s forehead, says, “Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return.”…

This is the scene that will take place in many Catholic churches next Wednesday. The event is called Ash Wednesday and it is celebrated to remind parishioners of their own mortality and calls them to repentance in view of Easter approaching. In the early Church, Ash Wednesday was the day on which those who had sinned, and who wished to be readmitted to the Church, would begin their public penance. The ashes represents the people’s sinfulness, and many will leave the ash Cross sign on their foreheads all day as a sign of humility [1].

As a church, like many other evangelical and protestant churches, MCBC has never celebrated Ash Wednesday but definitely the call to repentance is one that all Christians need to consider seriously, all day and every day. So in light of Easter approaching and the importance of that event we will start a new series on Repentance and Christ (often known as the season of Lent) to help us deepen our walk and commitment with our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, and prepare to celebrate Him and the good news of Easter.

…in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit…

Jan 20th: Shalom this Sunday @ MCBC…

Shalom church!

This Sunday we have the privilege to welcome a messianic Jewish brother to our church to preach. Andrew Barron from Jews for Jesus will preach on Jesus seen in the Old Testament. Leviticus 23 will be his starting passage. Here’s the blurb he gave me:
“From Genesis to Malachi, we will explore how Jesus fulfilled Old Testament prophecy and look at what some of the first-century rabbis said about Messiah and his coming. More than an Old Testament lesson, I will also share his or her first-hand experience of speaking about Messianic prophecy with Jewish people today.”

I’M EXCITED!!!and finally you get to hear Jewish stuff out from the mouth of a real Christian Jew…LEGIT!!!! Not a Chinese guy who talks a lot about Jewish stuff.

Jan 6th: First 2013 service @ MCBC…

Happy New Year church!!!

2013 seems to have lots in stores for everyone!! I cannot wait to watch Despicable Me 2 and Ironman 3. I also cannot wait to see if the new crop of Beaujolais or a new trip to Napa Valley will outdo the previous years. And lastly but not the least I cannot wait to COOK AND EAT new things. What about you? What are you looking forward too this year? Better, badder, awesomer, “amazinger”?

And what about spiritually? How should a healthy expectation of 2013 with God look like? We will learn from Malachi 1:1-5. There is much to learn from the Israelites of the Old Testament because they spent so many years with God.

I hope to see many this coming Sunday as we start the New Year together.
