Feb 21st: This Sunday @ MCBC…

Hey sojourners!!

Have you ever been lost? I mean real lost: on your own without a gps, google maps or a wife to tell you to stop and ask for directions? We usually do not like this sense of "lostness" and we usually rely on different things to gain control over any situations and potential situations where we might feel helpless or worst directionless.

What does this mean to us during this Lenting season? Let us come together this Sunday to learn and reflect on this together.

Feb 17th: Lent season at MCBC…

Hey church!!

In light of our message last Sunday I hope many of you have decided to Lent. Many of you have shared how you are Lenting and what you are fasting/abstaining from. It is awesome to be able to spiritually prepare for Easter together this way. If you have not decided how to Lent yet it is not too late…if you need advise feel free to contact me! 😀

This Sunday we continue our time in God's word to take stock, re-center and re-new our spiritual lives; learning to be better disciples now until Easter and be edified to continue long after Easter 2013. We will spend time in John 3 reading about Nicodemus and Jesus, light and darkness and life and death. Also, since we cannot talk about John 3 without the infamous John 3:16 this coming Sunday will be a good time to invite relatives, friends, colleagues, classmates, neighbors who do not know Jesus and his Gospel.

PS. Thanks to our brother Ny we now have some video sermons online. If you missed our introductory sermons for the church theme "Sheep and Fishermen" feel free to view them here.

Feb 10th: preparing yourself for Easter…

Hey sheep and fishermen!!

…a priest dips his right thumb in the ashes and, making the sign of the Cross on each person's forehead, says, "Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return."…

This is the scene that will take place in many Catholic churches next Wednesday. The event is called Ash Wednesday and it is celebrated to remind parishioners of their own mortality and calls them to repentance in view of Easter approaching. In the early Church, Ash Wednesday was the day on which those who had sinned, and who wished to be readmitted to the Church, would begin their public penance. The ashes represents the people's sinfulness, and many will leave the ash Cross sign on their foreheads all day as a sign of humility [1].

As a church, like many other evangelical and protestant churches, MCBC has never celebrated Ash Wednesday but definitely the call to repentance is one that all Christians need to consider seriously, all day and every day. So in light of Easter approaching and the importance of that event we will start a new series on Repentance and Christ (often known as the season of Lent) to help us deepen our walk and commitment with our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, and prepare to celebrate Him and the good news of Easter.

…in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit…
